Northumberland Photography Workshops Event Details Northumberland
Description: This is a 4-day, 3-night residential Northumberland photography workshop along one of the most dramatic coastlines in Britain, open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Northumberland has more castles than any English county — over seventy — and on this coast the great ones meet the sea: Bamburgh rising from its rocky outcrop, Lindisfarne silhouetted against the North Sea, Dunstanburgh ringed by the black boulders of Embleton Beach. It's a coastline made for photographers who want history, drama and big coastal light in one trip.
Based on the Northumberland coast, we spend four days chasing the best conditions across its finest locations — Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Lindisfarne, Beadnell, Craster and more — and because it's the east coast, you can shoot both sunrise and sunset from the same stretch of shore. The focus is on three things that define great coastal photography here: composing castles and shoreline into a strong frame, mastering long exposure to turn tide and sky into mood, and working the magical light of sunrise and sunset over the Farne Islands and empty beaches. Throughout, the emphasis isn't just on the famous castle view but on learning to see it — composing with intention, working intimate detail as readily as the grand vista, and reading light and weather as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot.
With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition, planned each day around the tides, the light and the forecast, with a detailed location itinerary sent a few days ahead. Across four days you'll shoot empty beaches at first light, iconic castles and long-exposure seascapes — and come away with a portfolio of dramatic Northumbrian coastal images and a real command of long-exposure and coastal technique. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
