Photography Workshop Event Details Yorkshire Dales
Description: This is a 3-day, 2-night residential landscape photography workshop in the Yorkshire Dales — one of England's most iconic and varied landscapes, open to all levels from beginner to advanced. From dramatic limestone pavements and amphitheatre cliffs to tumbling waterfalls, soaring viaducts and lone, wind-sculpted trees, the Dales pack an extraordinary range of subjects into one area, and over a long weekend you'll learn to read and photograph this moody, dramatic country in its best light.
Across three days we work some of the Dales' most rewarding locations as the conditions and season allow — the natural amphitheatre of Malham Cove and the ravine at Gordale Scar, the waterfalls of Ingleton, Aysgarth and Janet's Foss, the sweeping arches of Ribblehead Viaduct, and the famous lone tree set on its bare limestone pavement. The focus is on three things that make a strong Dales image: composing rock, water and vista into a balanced frame, mastering long exposure to bring waterfalls and rivers to life, and timing each shoot — including early morning starts — to the dramatic light and weather these hills are known for. Throughout, the emphasis isn't just on the grand vista but on learning to see it — composing with intention, working intimate detail as readily as the wide view, and reading light and colour as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot.
With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition — Alan plans each day around the season and the forecast, and sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead. Accommodation and breakfast are included, so all you have to think about is your photography, and you'll come away with a varied portfolio of the Yorkshire Dales — waterfalls, limestone pavements, viaducts and classic vistas — and the field craft to capture dramatic upland landscape anywhere. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
