Wales Photography Workshop Event Details Lake Vyrnwy
Description: This is a 2-day, 1-night residential Wales photography workshop based in the valleys of Mid-Wales, open to all levels from beginner to advanced. It's built around two of the country's most rewarding landscape locations — Pistyll Rhaeadr, an enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains and, at 240ft, Britain's tallest single-drop fall, and the tranquil 11-mile shoreline of Lake Vyrnwy — giving you woodlands, water, mountains and one of the seven wonders of Wales in a single weekend.
Over two days we work both locations at their best. At Pistyll Rhaeadr you'll photograph the three-stage falls from the viewing platform and bridge, then drop down to water level among the slate beds and mini-falls for intimate compositions; around Lake Vyrnwy we take a leisurely circuit of the reservoir, stopping at quiet bays and outlets and walking the river to the waterfall at the valley head. The focus is on three things that make moving water and big Welsh landscape work: composing a strong frame from a busy natural scene, mastering long exposure to turn falling water into silk, and reading the light and weather that give these valleys their mood. Throughout, the emphasis isn't just on the famous waterfall but on learning to see it — working intimate detail as readily as the wide vista, and treating light and colour as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot.
With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition — Alan plans each day around the season and the forecast, and sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead. Accommodation and breakfast are included, so all you have to think about is your photography, and you'll come away with a varied portfolio of Welsh waterfalls, lakes and valleys — and a real command of long-exposure water technique. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
