  • Description: This is a 3-day, 2-night residential Lake District photography workshop, based in the north lakes and open to all levels from beginner to advanced. The Lake District has been a favourite of landscape photographers for decades, and for good reason: nowhere else in England packs in such variety — mountains, tarns, ancient woodland, waterfalls and reflective lakes — and the changeable Cumbrian weather means it's never the same place twice. Misty mornings, atmospheric light, stormy skies and quiet reflections can all arrive within a single weekend.

Over three days we shoot the iconic scenes at their best, basing ourselves in the north lakes and working two to three carefully chosen locations a day — from Derwent Water, Castlerigg and Ashness Bridge to the tarns and valleys of Langdale, Coniston and Buttermere. The rhythm follows the light: optional sunrise shoots, full days on location with tuition in the field, and optional sunset sessions, with evenings for relaxed picture reviews over a meal. Throughout, the emphasis isn't just on being at the famous viewpoint but on learning to see it — composing with intention, working intimate detail as readily as the grand vista, and reading light and weather as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot. You'll come away with a portfolio of dramatic Lakeland images and the field craft to read light and weather anywhere.

With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition — Alan plans each day around the group, the season and the forecast, sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead, and adapts on the ground to chase the best conditions. Accommodation and breakfast are included, so you can switch off from the logistics and focus entirely on your photography for three days. Extra night B&B available for Thursday — contact me for details and booking separately.
