Photography Workshop Event Details Dorset
Description: This is a 3-day, 2-night residential landscape photography workshop along the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Dorset's Purbeck coastline is one of the UK's great seascape locations — a prehistoric, World Heritage shore of sculpted arches, sea stacks and folded cliffs, with the iconic Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove at its heart — and across a weekend you'll learn to photograph it in its best light.
Based on the Purbeck coast, we work the area's finest locations — from Durdle Door, Man O'War and Lulworth Cove to Kimmeridge, Dancing Ledge, Mupe Bay and the ghost village of Tyneham. The focus is on three things that make a strong coastal image: composing rock, sea and sky into a balanced frame, using long exposure to turn the moving water into mood, and timing your shoot to the light and the tide. It's never prescriptive though — this varied coastline lends itself to any style, so whether you're drawn to classic seascapes, black and white or abstract, there's scope to follow your own creative vision; throughout, the emphasis is on learning to see, composing with intention and reading light and tone as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot. There are optional sunrise and sunset shoots and evenings for relaxed picture reviews.
With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition — Alan plans each day around the tides, the season and the forecast, and sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead. B&B accommodation and an evening meal are included, so all you have to think about for three days is your photography, and you'll come away with a portfolio of dramatic Jurassic Coast images and a real command of seascape and long-exposure technique. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
