Description: This Lavender Photography Workshop is a magical evening among the lavender rows of the Cotswolds at Snowshill in Gloucestershire — open to all levels and any camera. Best of all, you'll photograph the fields after the farm has closed to the general public, so instead of working around coachloads of day-trippers you have the spectacular sea of purple and the wildflower areas largely to yourselves — making it far easier to compose clean shots as the light softens towards sunset and the colour comes alive.
We shoot into the golden evening and sunset hours, when the low light brings out the richest colour in the lavender, and you can work it however inspires you — intimate, abstract close-ups of colour and texture, or sweeping vista views down the rows. The focus is on three things that make a strong flower-field image at this time of day: focusing and exposing accurately in fading low light, controlling tonal range to hold both shadow and highlight, and composing strong frames as the scene darkens — with long exposure technique to draw out movement and mood. Alan guides you through each as the light changes.
It's a small group of no more than six, taught personally and pitched at exactly your level, with one-to-one guidance throughout. With the crowds gone and the fields quiet, you'll have the space and time to really work your compositions — and you'll come away with a portfolio of vivid lavender-field images at their most atmospheric, plus the low-light and long-exposure skills to photograph colour and flowers anywhere. This is a special after-hours session: the farm opens to us beyond its normal public hours so we can shoot from 5pm into the early sunset light, and your workshop fee includes that commercial after-hours access. Please note the dates and finish times are set by the lavender farm rather than by Alan, and may be subject to change with the season and flowering.
