    • Photography Workshop Event Details Devon

    • Description: This is a multi-day residential landscape photography workshop based at Hartland Quay on the dramatic North Devon coast, open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Hartland Quay is one of the UK's most spectacular seascape locations — long slithers of rock formations running out into a fierce Atlantic tide — and it's the perfect base for learning seascape photography on a coastline that rewards drama, patience and timing.

Across the workshop you'll photograph the classic Hartland Quay views and range out along some of the finest coast in the South West — from Bude and Clovelly to Welcombe Bay, Saunton Sands and Woolacombe. The focus is on the craft of seascape photography: composing a strong coastal frame, mastering long exposure to turn moving water and sky into mood, and timing your shoot to the light and the tide. But the technical side is only the floor — the real work is learning to see, composing with intention and reading light and tide as a harmony rather than chasing the obvious shot, working the intimate detail as readily as the grand vista. Each day follows that rhythm — optional sunrise and sunset shoots when the light is best, full days in the field with tuition, and evening photo reviews and editing sessions to sharpen your eye.

With a maximum of just four photographers, this is genuinely personal tuition, and because the whole coast is tide- and light-dependent, Alan plans each day around the forecast and sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead. Tripods and ND filters can be lent if you don't yet own them, accommodation and breakfast are included, and you'll come away with a portfolio of dramatic Devon seascapes and a real command of long-exposure coastal technique. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
