Description: This is a 4-day, 3-night residential landscape photography workshop on the dramatic northeast coast of England, exploring the iconic coastline and moors of North Yorkshire — open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Based on the coast, you'll photograph some of the most atmospheric scenery in the country, from the tumbling fishing village of Staithes and the sweeping bay at Runswick to the harbour and abbey town of Whitby, with the wild North York Moors as a backdrop.
Over four full days we work from sunrise to sunset to make the most of the best light, tides and empty beaches — far more time on location than a short workshop allows. The focus is on three things that make a strong coastal image: composing the rocks, headlands and shoreline into a balanced frame, mastering long exposure to draw out movement in the sea and sky, and timing each shoot to the tides and the golden light of dawn and dusk. Across the four days you'll build a real working rhythm for coastal photography, returning to locations in different conditions to capture them at their very best.
With a maximum of just three photographers, this is exceptionally personal tuition — Alan plans each day around the season, the forecast and the tide times, and sends a detailed location itinerary a few days ahead. Accommodation and breakfast are included, so all you have to think about is your photography, and you'll come away with a varied portfolio of iconic Yorkshire coast and moorland images — and the field craft to read light, tide and weather on any coastline. An extra night's accommodation is available the day before if required — please request in advance, subject to hotel availability.
