Tip of the day - Create an audiovisual of your images to music

The mini heat-wave ended yesterday so I am forced back to the PC and not in the garden. When I woke this morning and was pondering what tip I could write about that might be more than just a ten top tips for something (whilst refusing to put the central heating on in mid-May so at my desk with a blanket covering my legs). There is nothing wrong with ten top tip for subjects but it can be a bit dry and often only appeals to a certain levels of experience, so, thinking about the sudden change in temperature and climate I wanted to try and do something a little more inspiring and creative. Reflecting on the weather changes I was “suffering”, I thought about the ever-changing nature of our woodlands. This culminated in the idea that’s it been sometime since I created an audiovisual in Lightroom (ignoring the previous bluebell woodland virtual walk mini production a few weeks ago)

Early on in my photographic “journey” I really enjoyed the process of combining my love for music, nature and photography and would often put my images to music in a slideshow (or posher speak - audiovisual). In fact it was until a year ago or so, that creating one was the last assignment for my beginners photography course. (Kirsten and others will no doubt recall and maybe even dread looking back at their first attempts).

So my mind was set, find some woodland images, suitable music to accompany the images, nothing fancy just a short presentation on a theme that I would feel rejuvenated by and enjoy putting together. I hope you enjoy it too?

Creating and audiovisual in Lightroom

I am not going to write a list of instructions and steps to do this. There are more than enough online tutorials already available on YouTube. All I would say is that it’s actually really easy to put together in Lightroom and then publish to YouTube for you to share with family and friends. So you should give it a go!

Challenge

I would like to challenge you all to create an audiovisual and publish it on YouTube and then send me a link so I can share it with our community through my blog. It can be a collection of photos on any theme you like but please try to;

  • put 40-50 photos together that are thematic rather than random - jumping from your holiday photo in wherever to a portrait then architecture can jolt so think about a series of connected images.

  • pick music that you feel accompanies the mood of the images (subjective i know)

  • try and keep the length down below 4mins - most people have an attention span for less than 2mins for this type of thing

  • experiment with image and transition duration so it fits to the timing of the music (as best you can)

  • try and sequence the images in some sense of order of transitioning from one to the next.
