Informal Photographic Workshop
This photographic workshop is more informal than the usual location workshops. It is not limited to 6 attendees and you are welcome to bring along a friend(s). I will be on-hand to lead the walk and provide tips and advice along the way and generally chat about photography be it method or creativity.
You might be feeling bored, trapped or in a creative rut! Or maybe you would just like to meet other photographers, share ideas and get some inspiration from each other and possibly me.
Grow your creativity
I will try to pick different locations that mean a variety of subjects and styles from macro to landscapes to architecture but I would advise that you don’t head into the photo walk with a preconceived idea of what you are going to photograph that day; instead wait for serendipity and circumstances to present you with new perspectives and subjects that you may not normally see.
The photo walks really are about being open to the many variables a photographer has to grapple with and will hopefully show that our local environments are rich in subject matter when we start to understand how the camera sees compared to our eyes.
You do not need any specialist equipment or even a DSLR, compact and bridge camera owners are just as welcome. Whilst I do not intend on walking miles and miles I do advise comfortable walking shoes, a bottle of water and appropriate protection from the weather on the day. Likewise I also advise against bringing a big kit bag with lots of lenses – don’t weigh yourself down with gear and to many options – Lets work at using just one lens and having the freedom to work a composition.
360 Degree Panning
If you are up for a challenge then you can have a go at my restricted photographic zone photography. On the walk we will choose a spot to stop at and I will set a boundary in which you have to find a shot within a 360 degree perimeter. This approach encourages or forces us to look harder and work harder to see a shot and make a photograph. It’s also great to see what different people come up with all within 50 meter radius.
Duration & Cost
I want to make these walks as inclusive as possible and also more informal than a normal workshop so they are set a nominal cost of just £10. This price also includes the option for you to bring a friend with you free of charge. Photo walks will vary in duration depending on locations and times but will typically be just a couple of hours on the walk and the option to go for a drink afterwards nearby.
Equipment for this workshop
Recommended but it's not all essential: It's important to travel light on a walk!
- Tripod - you may not need one at all and remember you will have to carry it.
- No specialist lenses required, we can make use of whatever you have
- A polariser filter is useful but not essential
- Comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather
- A bottle of water and chocolate!
Booking your place
You can book your place as normal through my website on the photographic workshops page (2.5hr-4hrs events) where you will need to pay and complete the registration form yourself – you don’t have to register your plus one, just turn up with them on the event.
Use the filter photo walks to see all scheduled events. I will email everyone who has paid and registered with joining instructions 48hrs prior to the event. In the event of cancellation due to bad weather or other circumstances I will make contact by phone/email as soon as that decision is made and you will keep your credit for use on another event.
