Southerscales Limestone Pavement

Size:  16x11" (A3) Fine Art Print on Premium Hahnemühle

Paper - Bamboo 290gsm

Bamboo is the world’s first digital fine art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres. Bamboo represents spirituality, naturalness and resource-saving paper production. It’s particularly suitable for warm-toned colour and monochrome prints; Bamboo really highlights the sensuality of images.

First come first serve as one-off editions.

Southerscales Limestone Cracks

May's selected image was taken at Southerscales, near Ingleton, Yorkshire Dales.

The outstanding limestone pavements of Southerscales with fascinating tunnels on its surface and deep grykes provide inspiring patterns and lines to create a visual illustration of this wonderful geology.  The limestone plateau is 1100 meters altitude so you will need to walk a wee while to reach it but am sure you'll agree it's worth the slog with the gear when you have views like this.

RAW file

RAW file

The trickiest part of making this image was not slipping on the many loose rocks underfoot or down one of the many deep potholes and crevices.  Likewise, trying to get your tripod in position was equally challenging but worth the effort when you shoot low to the ground to really emphasise the lines and change the perspective of the angle of view.

ISO 100, Focal Length 16mm, F14, 1/13sec, polarising filter, tripod, custom white balance.

The image needed very little post processing as you can see from the RAW capture.

Some tweaking with the tonal range and heavy vignette really helped draw the eye to the tree and create a sense of drama.
