Size: 16x11" (A3) Fine Art Print on Premium Hahnemühle
Paper - Bamboo 290gsm
Bamboo is the world’s first digital fine art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres. Bamboo represents spirituality, naturalness and resource-saving paper production. It’s particularly suitable for warm-toned colour and monochrome prints; Bamboo really highlights the sensuality of images.
First come first serve as one-off editions.
April's selected image was taken in Warwickshire on one of my bluebell woodlands workshops. Conditions were lovely in the early morning light and timing the shot when the sun was shining but not too brightly was the key to making this shot. It's a composition/shot I have made on the same location for the last 4 years.
Each year that fresh new growth on the left gets a little bigger and introduces new challenges to find the right height, angle and perspective to keep the shot clean and simple without the distraction of the ever increasing, in size, holly bush just to the left out of shot.... I'm sure next year it will be even harder to get this composition.
Given I have taken this same shot many times over the last 4 years whilst running workshops here I was pleased with this version and feel it's probably the best I have made to date of that particular tree and view.
Those of you who know me will know that I rarely post details of the exposure settings. Not because they are some magical formula or higher knowledge, but because it's always a case of trying to see what works with the light you are working with on the day and importantly the intention you have for conveying the mood and composition.
However, on this occasion I will share that data as know many newbies were with me over a week of workshops there and will undoubtedly be interested.
ISO 100, Focal Length 150mm, F6.3, 1/10sec, polarising filter, tripod, custom white balance and waited for the sunlight to just create the highlights and shadows without being to contrasty.
This image is exactly as framed in camera, shot as a RAW file and then contrast and tonal curve added in LR to to create the right blend of shadows, midtones and highlights that accentuated the natural forms of light, texture, colour and shapes.
